Eavestrough Repair Calgary
Fix the Leak, the Sag and the Overflow
Most eavestrough problems are repairs, not replacements: a sagging run, a leaking seam, a loose downspout, a dented section or a stretch pulled away by ice. Blueprint repairs eavestroughs and downspouts across Calgary and nearby towns. We find the cause, such as a failed hanger, rotten fascia or a clogged outlet, fix it properly and tell you honestly when the whole system should be replaced. You deal with the owner from the first call.

There are so many good things to say about Blueprint Construction and it is impossible to fit everything I want to say within a single Google review. Our house was heavily damaged by a hail storm, and Blueprint Construction was incredibly helpful right from the start. The owner came to our home the same day we reached out and he provided a detailed quote. I also received quotes from a few different companies and Blueprint saved me about $9000 in total for siding and roof replacement/repair. There was very little waiting, and the team that worked on our house was incredibly professional. They went above and beyond and you could tell that they cared about their work. The clean-up was also well-done, and I couldn't find any nails or other stray materials on my lawn or flowerbed. The end result was fantastic and the owner checked-in with us throughout the process to ensure we were satisfied with everything. Overall, I couldn't be happier and I would highly recommend this company for anyone needing repairs to their house.Posted on Google![]()

Eavestrough Problems We Repair
An eavestrough has one job, which is to collect roof water and carry it away from the house. When it sags, leaks or overflows, water runs down the walls, soaks the fascia and soffit and pools at the foundation. Repairs are usually quick and affordable when they are done early: re-hanging a sagging run, re-sealing seams, replacing a section, fixing downspouts and elbows and repairing the fascia behind. The damage spreads when the problem is ignored.
- Sagging and loose runs
- Leaking seams and corners
- Loose or crushed downspouts
- Ice and snow damage
- Rotten fascia behind the trough
- Overflow and clogged outlets
Why Eavestroughs Sag
Sagging Eavestroughs and Failed Hangers
A sagging run usually means the hangers have loosened, the fascia has softened or snow and ice weighed the trough down. We re-secure the run with new hidden hangers or spikes into solid wood and set the slope toward the downspout so water drains instead of pooling. If the fascia is soft, hangers will not hold, so we repair the fascia first.
- New hidden hangers
- Fascia checked and repaired
- Slope reset toward downspouts
- Overflow tested
Seams, Corners and End Caps
Leaking Eavestrough Seams and Corners
Sectional eavestroughs leak at the seams and corners where sealant dries and shrinks. Seamless troughs leak at the corners and end caps. We clean the joint, re-seal or re-rivet it and replace damaged corner pieces and end caps. Sealant alone is a temporary fix on a worn joint, so we tell you when the section should be replaced.
- Seams cleaned and sealed
- Corners and end caps replaced
- Rivets and fasteners renewed
- Water tested after repair
Water Away From the House
Downspout and Elbow Repair
A downspout that is crushed, loose or too short sends water to the foundation. We replace damaged sections, elbows and brackets, add extensions or splash blocks so water leaves at least a couple of metres from the wall and clear blocked outlets. Water pooling at the foundation is one of the most expensive problems a bad downspout can cause.
- Sections, elbows and brackets replaced
- Extensions and splash blocks
- Blocked outlets cleared
- Water directed away from the foundation
Chinooks and Ice
Ice Dams and Winter Damage
Calgary's freeze and thaw cycles are hard on eavestroughs. Ice can fill the trough, pull it off the fascia and crush downspouts, and ice dams can push meltwater under the shingles. We repair winter damage, check the attic insulation and ventilation that cause ice dams, and fit the trough so meltwater has a way out. Chipping ice damages the trough, so we do not recommend it.
- Ice-bent sections repaired
- Hangers renewed
- Attic insulation and ventilation checked
- Downspouts cleared
The Wood Behind
Fascia and Soffit Repair
The fascia is the board the eavestrough hangs on, and the soffit is the panel beneath the roof edge. When the eavestrough overflows or leaks, they rot, and a rotten fascia cannot hold hangers. We replace rotted fascia, repair or replace soffit and wrap the fascia in aluminum where it suits, so the new eavestrough has solid wood behind it.
- Rotted fascia replaced
- Soffit repaired or replaced
- Aluminum fascia wrap option
- Eavestrough re-hung on solid wood
The age and condition of the trough decide the better spend.
Eavestrough Repair or Replacement?
Repair makes sense when:
Damage is limited to one section
The trough is under about fifteen years old
The fascia is sound
The problem is a seam, a hanger or a downspout
Replacement makes sense when:
The trough is rusted, cracked or sagging all along
Repairs keep failing
The fascia is rotted widely
You want a larger size or seamless system

Frequently Asked Questions About Eavestrough Repair
-
Q. How much does eavestrough repair cost in Calgary?
Small repairs, such as resealing a seam or re-hanging a short section, are usually inexpensive. Replacing sections, fixing fascia or repairing many problems costs more. We inspect and give you a clear price.
-
Q. Why is my eavestrough leaking?
Most leaks come from seams and corners where sealant has dried and shrunk, from holes and rust or from a trough that has sagged. Water that leaves through the seam rather than the downspout means the joint has failed.
-
Q. Why is my eavestrough sagging?
Hangers have loosened, the fascia has softened, the trough is clogged and heavy or ice and snow have pulled it down. We find which one and repair it, including the fascia if needed.
-
Q. Why does my eavestrough overflow?
Clogged outlets, a trough that is not sloped toward the downspout, too few downspouts or an undersized system. Cleaning helps for a while, but a bad slope or a small trough needs repair.
-
Q. Can you fix a pulled-away eavestrough?
Yes. We re-secure it into solid wood with new hangers, and replace the fascia first if it is rotted.
-
Q. Do you repair downspouts?
Yes. We replace damaged sections, elbows and brackets, add extensions and clear blockages so water drains away from the foundation.
-
Q. Can ice damage an eavestrough?
Yes. Ice can bend the trough, pull it from the fascia and crush downspouts. Fixing the attic insulation and ventilation that cause ice dams prevents repeat damage.
-
Q. How do I know if my fascia is rotted?
Press on it with a screwdriver. Soft, spongy or crumbling wood means rot, and a rotten fascia cannot hold hangers. We repair or replace it before re-hanging the eavestrough.
-
Q. Should I clean my eavestroughs before repairing them?
Yes. Clearing leaves, needles and shingle grit shows the real condition of the trough and helps water flow. We can clean as part of the repair.
-
Q. Do I repair or replace my eavestroughs?
Repair if the damage is limited and the fascia is sound. Replace if the trough is rusted, sagging along its length or repairs keep failing. We tell you honestly which one fits.
-
Q. What is the difference between eavestrough and gutter?
Nothing. Eavestrough is the word most Albertans use for what other regions call a gutter.
-
Q. Do you repair seamless eavestroughs?
Yes. Seamless eavestroughs are repaired at their corners, end caps, hangers and downspouts, and a damaged length can be replaced.
-
Q. How long do eavestroughs last?
Aluminum eavestroughs often last 20 years or more when installed and maintained properly. Hail, ice, poor slope and neglected cleaning shorten that.
-
Q. Can hail damage eavestroughs?
Yes. Hail dents the aluminum and can loosen seams. Dented eavestroughs are good evidence of a hailstorm, and we document them in our hail inspections.
-
Q. Do you repair eavestroughs after insurance damage?
Yes. We photograph the damage, give you an estimate and repair the eavestroughs, fascia and soffit once the claim is approved.
-
Q. Can I fix an eavestrough myself?
Small jobs, such as cleaning and re-sealing a seam, are fine from a stable ladder. Re-hanging a long run, repairing fascia or working at height is better left to professionals, since falls from ladders are a common cause of injury.
-
Q. How often should eavestroughs be cleaned?
At least twice a year, in late spring and in fall after the leaves drop, and more often if you have trees close to the house. A clean trough drains properly and is less likely to sag.
-
Q. Do eavestrough guards help?
Guards keep out larger debris but can trap grit and ice, and some can hide a clog until it overflows. They work best on a trough that is already sound, and they still need an occasional check.
-
Q. Why does my eavestrough drip at the corners?
Corners are the weakest joint, since sealant dries and the metal moves with temperature. A re-seal usually fixes it, and a corner piece or end cap that is bent or cracked should be replaced.
-
Q. What happens if I leave an eavestrough leak alone?
Water runs down the wall and soaks the fascia, soffit and siding, pools at the foundation and can freeze on walkways. A small repair becomes a larger and more costly one over a season or two.
-
Q. How much overhang or slope should an eavestrough have?
A trough should slope slightly toward its downspout, commonly about 1 centimetre for every 3 to 6 metres of run, so water drains instead of standing. A slope that is too flat leaves water behind and too steep looks poor and can overshoot at the outlet.
-
Q. Which areas do you serve?
We repair eavestroughs in Calgary and in Airdrie, Chestermere, Cochrane and Okotoks, and in the areas between.
