Vinyl Siding Calgary

Vinyl Siding Installed Straight and Built to Last

Vinyl is the most common siding in Calgary because it is affordable, never needs painting and handles our freeze and thaw cycles. Blueprint installs vinyl siding on houses, townhouses and garages across Calgary and nearby towns. We strip the old siding, check and repair the wall, wrap it and install new panels, trim and soffit, so the finished wall is straight, tight and protected. You deal with the owner from the estimate to the final cleanup.

There are so many good things to say about Blueprint Construction and it is impossible to fit everything I want to say within a single Google review. Our house was heavily damaged by a hail storm, and Blueprint Construction was incredibly helpful right from the start. The owner came to our home the same day we reached out and he provided a detailed quote. I also received quotes from a few different companies and Blueprint saved me about $9000 in total for siding and roof replacement/repair. There was very little waiting, and the team that worked on our house was incredibly professional. They went above and beyond and you could tell that they cared about their work. The clean-up was also well-done, and I couldn't find any nails or other stray materials on my lawn or flowerbed. The end result was fantastic and the owner checked-in with us throughout the process to ensure we were satisfied with everything. Overall, I couldn't be happier and I would highly recommend this company for anyone needing repairs to their house.

    Vinyl Siding for Calgary Homes

Vinyl siding is made of PVC panels that lock together over a house wrap. It does not rot, does not need painting and is the lowest-cost way to put a clean, uniform exterior on a house. Quality comes down to the panel thickness, the colour and profile you choose and, above all, the installation. Vinyl needs room to expand and contract with the temperature, and Calgary swings from minus thirty to plus thirty, so panels have to be hung loose in their slots and trimmed properly. The photo shows a two-storey Calgary house after new vinyl siding was installed. We can also add foam insulation under new vinyl siding for a warmer wall.

    • Affordable and low maintenance
    • No painting needed
    • Wide choice of colours and profiles
    • Handles freeze and thaw
    • Installed over house wrap

    Colour, Profile and Brand

Choosing Vinyl Siding Colours and Profiles

Vinyl comes in a wide range of colours, profiles and textures, from smooth lap to a woodgrain finish, and in dutch lap, board and batten and shake styles. We bring samples from the manufacturers we install, including Mitten and Kaycan, to your estimate so you can hold them against your house in daylight. Darker colours absorb more heat, and some manufacturers limit dark colours or offer heat-resistant versions, so we talk through the options. The photo shows a Mitten vinyl siding sample held against a wall to compare colour and woodgrain.

    Protection Behind the Panels

    House Wrap and Wall Preparation

Siding sheds most water, but not all of it, so the real protection is the house wrap behind it. After the old siding is off, we check the sheathing for damage and rot and repair it, then cover the wall with house wrap such as Tyvek, taped at the seams and tucked behind windows and trim. Starter strips, flashing and corner posts go on next. The photo shows house wrap on the upper rear wall of a Calgary house before the new vinyl siding went on.

    How Vinyl Siding Is Installed

Vinyl siding is installed from the bottom up. Each panel locks into the one below and is fastened in the centre of its slot with the nail left slightly loose, so the panel can slide as it warms and cools. Nailing too tight is the most common mistake, and it causes buckled, wavy walls. We cut and fit J-channel, trim and corners around windows, doors and vents so water runs away from every opening. • Nails centred, not driven tight

    The Finished Wall

    Finishing Trim, Soffit and Cleanup

The trim and soffit are what make a siding job look finished. We install corner posts, window and door trim, fascia and vented soffit so the siding meets the roofline cleanly and the attic can breathe. When the job is done we remove the old siding and scrap, sweep the yard and check the work with you. The photo shows a finished vinyl siding wall with trim and soffit on a Calgary house.

Vinyl is the most common choice, but it is not the only one.

Planning New Siding? Tell Us About It

Send the size of the house and a photo of the wall, and we will call you back.

      What Affects Vinyl Siding Cost

      Size of the House

Siding is priced by area. A larger house, or one with many gables and corners, costs more than a simple box.

      Panel Quality

Thicker, higher-grade vinyl costs more than builder-grade panels, and it resists impact and warping better.

      Wall Condition

Rotted sheathing, old layers or damaged framing add work before new siding can go on.

      Trim and Extras

Soffit, fascia, window trim, foam insulation under the siding and decorative details change the total.

      Vinyl Siding in Calgary Weather

      Cold Handling

Vinyl is brittle in the cold. We handle and cut it carefully in winter and avoid forcing panels.

      Heat and Sun

Dark colours and reflected heat from windows can warp panels, so we use proper spacing and advice on colour.

      Hail

Hail can crack vinyl. Our hail damage page explains inspections and claims.

      Wind

Chinook winds test siding, so panels must be properly locked in and fastened.

Frequently Asked Questions About Vinyl Siding

          • Q. How much does vinyl siding cost in Calgary?

Vinyl siding replacement typically runs about $4.59 to $5.60 per square foot, so a house with around 1,500 square feet of wall is roughly $6,885 to $8,400. The final price depends on the house, the panel quality, the wall condition and the trim.

          • Q. How long does vinyl siding last?

Good vinyl siding commonly lasts 20 to 40 years, depending on quality, installation and exposure. Hail, impact damage and poor installation shorten that.

          • Q. What is the most popular vinyl siding colour?

Neutral colours such as grey, beige and white are the most common in Calgary, with darker blues, greys and browns growing. We bring samples to your estimate so you can compare colours on your own wall.

          • Q. Can vinyl siding be installed in winter?

Yes, but vinyl is brittle in the cold, so panels must be handled and cut carefully. Many homeowners prefer spring through fall, and we will tell you what is realistic.

          • Q. Is vinyl or James Hardie better?

Vinyl costs less and needs no painting. James Hardie fibre cement is heavier, non-combustible and more hail resistant but costs more. We install both and can show you samples. See our Hardie board siding page for the details.

          • Q. Can I put new vinyl siding over old siding?

We do not recommend it. Removing the old siding lets us check the sheathing, fix leaks and install house wrap, which is where most siding failures start.

          • Q. Do you remove and haul away the old siding?

Yes. Removal and disposal are part of the job, and good siding that can be reused is given away to people in the community.

          • Q. Can you add foam insulation under vinyl siding?

Yes. While the old siding is off, we can fit rigid foam board behind the new siding to raise the wall's R-value.

          • Q. Do you repair vinyl siding as well as replace it?

Yes. If only a few panels are damaged, repairing them is cheaper than replacing the whole wall. Our siding repair page explains what we handle.

          • Q. Why is my vinyl siding wavy or buckled?

Wavy siding usually means the panels were nailed too tight and cannot expand and contract, or the wall behind them is uneven or damaged. Heat from reflected sunlight can also warp panels. A repair means re-hanging the panels loosely or replacing the damaged ones.

          • Q. Does vinyl siding fade?

Vinyl can fade slowly in strong sun, especially darker colours on south and west walls. Quality panels have UV protection that slows fading. Colour is moulded through the panel, so it does not peel the way paint does.

          • Q. How do I clean vinyl siding?

Rinse it with a garden hose and wash with a soft brush and mild soapy water, working from the bottom up to avoid streaks. Avoid pressure washers at close range, which can force water behind the panels.

          • Q. Is insulated vinyl siding worth it?

Insulated vinyl has a foam backing that adds a little R-value and stiffens the panel. Rigid foam board under standard siding raises R-value more. We can talk through the options for your wall and budget.

          • Q. Will new siding improve my home's value and energy bills?

New siding improves curb appeal and protects the wall, which helps resale. Adding foam insulation while the wall is open can also reduce heat loss, so it can lower heating costs.

          • Q. Can you match my existing siding for an addition or repair?

Often yes, but older siding fades and manufacturers change colours, so a perfect match is not always possible. We bring samples to compare and tell you honestly when a repair will show, and whether replacing the whole wall looks better.

          • Q. What should I ask a vinyl siding contractor?

Ask whether they remove the old siding, repair the sheathing, install house wrap, hang panels loose and trim every opening, and who will be on your property. Ask for a quote that lists those steps, and for photos of their recent siding jobs.

          • Q. Which areas do you serve?

We install vinyl siding in Calgary and in Airdrie, Chestermere, Cochrane and Okotoks, and in the areas between.
